extended family

I have always been interested in how people fit- or don’t fit- into the families they are part of. This series explores themes of relationship, connection and disconnection within my own very extended family, which contains parents by marriage, adoption and birth, and siblings and cousins every way that you can imagine. The traditional nuclear family structure has been changing for some time now, but who “gets” to be called mother, father, sister, and brother in a family is still a very political thing, and one that I hope to explore by doing this work.
